Today’s post is a bit light, and not that you necessarily are all to concerned with what I’ve got going on, but I thought I would share what I’m listening to, watching, & reading. Maybe you have been looking for something to try or to get into. Let me know your thoughts. I would love to hear from you.
What I’m Listening too…
I have really gotten into listening to random podcasts lately, and because I am so danggone nosey and intrigued by other peoples lives, I have subscribed to “Oprah’s Master Class, The Podcast.” She has a wide range of celebrities that talk about their pasts, and their journey to stardom. These last 2 episodes, she is actually talking about her own life, and I didn’t realize that I didn’t know some of these things about my girl! I guess everybody has their “stuff”, right?
Another of my faves is, “The Nod” from Gimlet Media. It’s a new podcast about Black culture, that is hosted by 2 of some of the most charismatic people on the air. They have been friends since college, and have a great chemistry. The duo cover all kids of topics, from Purple Drank, to Lavar Burton & his Reading Rainbow days, to the story of the African Soccer Team making it to the F.I.F.A. World Cup for the first time. There are so many things that I have learned listening to them, and the colorful way that they share. They literally keep me LOLing.
What I’m Watching…
So, I am smack dab in the middle of watching Amazon Prime’s “Homecoming.” This is actually a show that was first a podcast that I listened to, and was super excited to hear that it was becoming a show. I will say that as I watch, I am a little disappointed that they didn’t keep the same actors that they used for the podcast that they are for the show. They are actual actors, and did a great job. Some of them just don’t seem to fit in my opinion. Oh well. I guess Julia Roberts has a little more grab than Catherine Keener. Who knows…
I have been waiting on the perfect weekend to binge the farewell season of one of my absolute favorite Netlix shows. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” I am sad to see it go, due to the hilariousness of it all. It is one of those shows were it is almost too whacky, but you can’t help but be entertained. Ellie Kemper as Erin on” The Office” was such a hoot, that I knew I had to check her out on this show, and she didn’t disappoint. You can check out the shows plot below:
“Rescued after 15 years in a cult, Kimmy Schmidt decides to reclaim her life by venturing to New York, where she experiences everyday life with wide-eyed enthusiasm. On a whim, she rents a room from Titus, a gay wannabe Broadway actor, who makes ends meet as a street performer in Times Square. The unlikely pair find they’re well-suited to help each other out, with Titus reintroducing Kimmy to modern life, and her providing him with the inspiration that you should never give up. Together they’ll make it through whatever life throws at them.”
What I’m Reading…
I picked this book up because, like I mentioned before, I am nosey & I love to read about people’s lives and where they came from. I am a fan of Tiffany Haddish, but not fan of the way this book is written. Ok, so you do get to take a glimpse of the struggles that she fought through, and about her rise to fame in general, but this book that was hard to muscle through. It read just like you hear her talk, and it was a bit, “all over the place”. I have to admit, that wore me out! If you are a fan and just want to know more about Tiffany, then go for it. But for the avid reader who looks for more structure in their reading, I say, “don’t do it”. This does in no way take away from her as a person, but whomever signed off on this writing style needs a whoopin! IJS.
I pray that you all have a great weekend, and hope that you come back for more on Monday! Happy listening, watching, & reeading!
