So…this past Friday was very interesting. First of all, my Mother In Law had a scare, and had to be rushed to the hospital. (She is in recovery, so prayers are still welcomed) Damon took off to go check on her, and I made plans to grab the kids after work and head to Waco that evening. I called my Grandma to let her know we were coming, and that we had planned to stay at her house. We didn’t arrive until after 11 pm, and of course, they were in bed already. I had to knock a few times, and my Grandpa stumbled to the door. We were all prepared to hug and kiss the both of them and get on to bed, but yeah, we were mistaken.
The both of them came out of their room, fully dressed and proceeded to fuss over the five of us. Grandma was pulling out sheets, towels, and blankets. Grandpa was trying to talk Damon into a cup of coffee. Grandma kept trying to make us breakfast, and when we said we didn’t want breakfast, due to it being almost midnight, she tried to feed us chocolate chip cookies. They both kept trying to make Donovan go sleep in their spare bedroom that NO ONE ever goes into! This was after he told them multiple times that he was good sleeping on the sofa. Grandpa kept calling him, “Linebacker”, which I thought was hilarious, and after about thirty minutes of “the fuss”, Grandpa asked what time it was. When we told him 11:50, he says, “Oh, I thought it was 9 something.” Mind you, we have told them multiple times that it was almost THE NEXT DAY! I tried to get them to get on to bed, but they were not having it. I finally had to tap out, and left poor Damon to fend for himself. (I was beyond tired from a long work week) It wasn’t long after that I saw the lights go out, so Damon didn’t suffer long.
It had to be about 5:45 AM that I heard rustling in the kitchen. Of course, they were both back at it, making that breakfast they kept attempting the night before. Grandma made her rounds to tell everyone that it was time to eat, so of course we had to all get on up to get to the table at 6:30 in the morning!
In my Grandma’s older age, she has come to think she is a bit of a comedienne. I said to her, “Grandma, come scoot closer in to your husband so I can take your picture.” Her response, “THIS one?” That just sent her into her cute signature shoulder shrugging giggle. My Grandpa just shook his head and said, “She’s telling off on herself. I need a lawyer.” They always provide us with comic relief. Damon laughed so hard till Grandma told him to hush.
I know I have mentioned before that I feel so very blessed and fortunate to be 40 years old and still have Grandparents. I love to spend time with them, and if you have them, you should do the same. We have a Cousins/Grandparents Day scheduled for all of the 1st cousins and their families to meet up at the Grands house and just love on them. There are 14 Grand-Kids, 21 Great-Grands, and 1 Great Great Grand. The house will be full, and they will eat that up!
