Great Reads….

Good Morning, Friends! I pray everyone is well on this beautiful Tuesday morning.

I wanted to share with you all, a book that I have discovered and read, that was phenomenal! It all started with this particular podcast episode of The Nod-Isn’t it Romantic . Not long after listening to this, I happened to be reading a book review from one of my favorite bloggers, and 2 of the 3 books were on her “Must Read” list. I took this as a sign to get on this train. So far, I believe there are 3 books in the series, with a 4th coming soon.

The first installment is “The Wedding Date”. This is the one that I completed, and it was really hard to put down. There were a couple of “later than I should have been up” nights on this one. SO GOOD! Here is a brief description:

Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn’t normally do. But there’s something about Drew Nichols that’s too hard to resist. On the eve of his ex’s wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend…

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she’s the mayor’s chief of staff. Too bad they can’t stop thinking about the other…

They’re just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century–or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want…

I have just begun The Proposal, and it has already got me enthralled. I really enjoy the authors writing style. They are romance chick lit novels that have sweet, not raunchy encounters. You are forced to use your imagination as she describes the “happenings” between the characters. Once I get through the 3rd, I plan to do a review of them all. If you are looking for something good to read, check these titles out. I do not think you will be the least bit disappointed.

Do you have any suggestions on titles that you enjoy? I am always looking for a good read to add to my little collection.

Be Blessed,

The Minimalist….

Hey there, Friends!

I have been on a rampage the last few weeks, simply due to the fact that I LOATHE CLUTTER! I believe that I have been pretty transparent in my feelings about all of the unnecessary STUFF with you all, so I’ve been busy running Operation Declutter around the White House. Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed by just…STUFF? Well, if this at all sounds like something you struggle with, I am here to help. Below are a few tips to help get you out of your rut.

1. Do not let paper pile up. Take a few minutes every other day or so to just weed through things like mail, kid’s school paperwork, etc. Once you’ve looked it over, decide whether to file it away, shred it, sign it, or trash it, then just do it!

2. Everything has a place. It just makes it that much easier when you know where to find things.

3. Have a designated location for donation items. Periodically, we will all go through and purge from our closets. Everyone in the house, all the way down to the 6 year old, knows where to put the items we are donating…..the bin in the garage.

I’ll be back later this week for a few more tidbits. Please don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any questions. Remember, don’t just talk about it….BE about it!

What’s Been Making Me Happy This Week….

Good Friday Morning, Friends! I’m BACK! It has been waaay busy over at the White House, but I am making a vow to myself to not be gone so long….ever again. This little blog is sort of therapeutic for me, and since I don’t have a huge social media presence, but I do like to document some things Story Style, “Be About It” was born. So here we go with….What’s Been Making Me Happy This Week…

#1. These Sweet Potato & Brown Sugar Sun Chips! Now, I know it sounds real FAT of me to be talking about snacks for a happiness enhancer, but these chips are what’s up! #getchasum

#2. Small Victories

I don’t want to jinx anything, but this little nugget has been working on making better choices and as of yesterday, we have had a really good week. Pray for me, Friends. #fingerscrossed

#3. This Guy!

God has truly blessed me with this man. As I have mentioned in posts past, I am one of the fortunate to still have a Full Set, as I call them, of Grandparents. (91 & 87 years young) We were visiting them last week, and came to find out that they needed some help in a few areas of their house. Before I could even blink, Damon was devising a plan to get them straightened out. He never hesitates to help those in need, especially family. That is the main reason that I love him the way I do. Not to mention that he is pretty cute! I mean come on…look at him!

#4. My Robin!

This weekend, we are getting ready to turn up and celebrate birthday #60 for the sweetest, bestest Mama/Grandma there is! Let me break down one of the reasons that I love her so. I called her about a month ago and asked her had she made birthday plans. When she told me she hadn’t, I told her to arrange to be gone for that weekend , and what to pack. Do you know what she said? “OK!” Ya’ll, she didn’t even ask me where she was going or what she was doing!!! I could NEVAH!!!! She trusts that whatever is going down, she is in good hands. Last year, I had a 40th birthday party, and both of my brothers got married. When I tell you that my Mama was the life of all 3 parties, it is an understatement. She loves the Lord, Life , and her family. She has always been my biggest cheerleader, even when it wasn’t cheer worthy. Mama, this weekend we celebrate YOU! Happy 60th birthday, Lady!!!

I’ll be back next week with some pictures from the weekend. Be Blessed,

17 Years…

Good Morn-Ting!

I mentioned this past weekend on social media that this guy and I were celebrating 17 years of marriage. I couldn’t be happier or feel more blessed being this man’s wife. We always like to spend some dedicated Mama/Daddy time together, and this time, we decided to stay local. We called up the Grandma Supreme, and she willingly came up to spend the night with her grands.

Damon dubbed this time together as a “Why Not” day. This is something that he and Donovan like to do on occasion. I got a little fussed at, because I apparently don’t do “Why Not” right. LOL! “Hey! I don’t have to want what you want on “why not”, and I won’t stop you either. You do you, Boo!” Yeah, he told me that I suck at that. I may not ever be included in another “why not”. LOL!

First stop…The Dacquiri Shoppe!

We headed to Ft. Worth, which is a place that I have never really ventured out to. Our eyes were on this place….It is like going to a Mall Food Court without the mall. Any type of food that you could imagine you may want, is represented. Seafood, Burgers, Noodles, Indian, you name it!

Not to mention a few sweet treats….

The House @ Press Waffle Co.
Nutella, Cookie Butter, Strawberries, & Whipped Cream on a hot Belgium Waffle. Yes please!

You see that there are 2 forks, even though SOMEONE claimed they didn’t want anything sweet. His words: “That’s all you, Baby”.
Uhhhhmmmm, ate more than me. IJS!

Being totally stuffed from sampling a little bit of everything, we decided to head out and do a little tourist-ing. (Not sure that is a word, but let’s go with it)

After rolling through the streets of Ft. Worth, we decided that what we really wanted to do was get some dinner, settle in for the night and just spend some QT together, uninterrupted, and we did just that.

The next day had us back in our “hood”, finishing up our weekend with our kids, and getting ready for the week.

Bonus: Got to watch our Steelers show their stuff! And before anyone gets going, I know it is just preseason. Just gets me in all of the Fall feels, when football starts. Who’s with me on that? Until next time…

Be Blessed,

Hey there, Friends! I am back to tell you all about our 90s/2000s throwback excursion.

Here we are on our way to the Hammer’s House Party concert, where we got to see 2LiveCrew, Kid N’ Play, Sisqo & Dru Hill, Sir Mixalot, and of course….MC Hammer!

Here we come, Hammer!

We had purchased $20 lawn tickets on Groupon quite a few months back. I had us all prepared with my little roll away lawn blankets, only to get to the door and have them tell us that it was no longer a lawn concert, but the that they were moving everyone inside. I will tell you right now, I wasn’t even mad at that. It is August in Texas, so inside sounded like a great plan. Damon and I took everything back out to the car, and popped right back in to the AC. I think I forgot to mention that we were swapped out for some really good floor seats. Remember me saying that I wasn’t at all mad at the change? I totally stand by that.

Our seats were great & I was with my Best Guy and my Aunt J!

Ran into a few friends…

Anitra & I go WAAAAAAY Back!

I didn’t take very many pictures, seeing as we were too busy doing all of the dance moves to the songs we were singing along to. I have said it before. There is no better of a time, than a time that can take you back to a simpler time. LOL! Have you ever heard an old song, and was immediately sent back to the time of when you first heard that song? You can remember EXACTLY what was going on then, right? I love it!

Donovan hears “OUR” music and always says that it all sounds the same. The same beats, and talking about the same things. We don’t even entertain him, because the mess that they listen to now is complete & utter foolishness with a capital F! Anywhoooo, I am sure the older than me generation thought the same about my music, but you know what? I AM THE 90s/2000s, and wouldn’t change a thang!

These old dudes did their thing that night. Most probably needed to go ice their knees and rub Bengay on their joints, but we were thoroughly entertained.

If they come to your city, check them out.

Come back tomorrow for another Life Recap…

First Day….

Good Morning, Folks! I know its been a minute, but I have been a bit busy with life. I am sure you all know how it is…..right? I will have some Life Recaps later in the week, but today, I wanted to start it off with my babies going back to school. Settle in, because I have a bunch of pics!

My big boy rarely wants to take a picture, and this morning was no different. “Ma, you are just taking a picture of me in gym clothes.” Of course, I took the picture anyway, and will get one when he gets home….SO THERE! He had to be at football practice at 6:00 AM. FOOLISHNESS!!! #firstdayof10thgrade

Bring on 6th Grade!
1st grade ain’t ready!
These 2!
That little one is a hot mess
Our Little Drew. Ready for the day!

This little girl right here is tough! She is one of those kids that people say, “She has been here before.” She will take on the world, and look back at you with attitude! I also know that it is going to be lights out EARLY tonight. That child likes to sleep, and today is going to wear her out!

Just a Cheesin’
“Mama. Can we take a selfie?” “Why, of course!!!”
Car selfie with my Kori: The 6th grader
“Mama, can you walk in with me?”
As I tear up BEHIND the glass….

Today was kinda tough for me as I made this last drop off. I never really worry about Kori, until she gives me reason to worry. Have you ever just thought that your kid wasn’t ready for something? Prayerfully, she will prove me wrong. I know she can handle it. I can’t wait to hear about her day. Pray for my Mama Heart ya’ll…

Psalm 127:3-5 Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

White Summer Vacay…

Good Morning! I am here today to share a few pics and stories about our family vacation. This was our first time to take everybody on a cruise, and I must say…it was definitely an interesting adventure. Settle in, because here we go….

Those Littles. Always camera ready1

When I tell you that it is not very easy to get us all in one photo, I ain’t kidding! It is especially trying when you are being herded like cattle in a line. LOL! Those cruise ship security folks run things like well oiled machines.

Our first mission was to find us some lunch.

Those teeth!

We later found our rooms, got unpacked and settled, and went to “People Watch” around the pool. There were soooo many pictures that I wanted to take, but decided not to. #somefolkswerejustwrong

We had the early 5:30 dinner, so we headed to the main dining room for some GOOD food.

Where does she get that from???

These little ducks were “hidden” all around the ship. I forgot to post on FB that we had found one. The game is to find it, post it, and re-hide it. I had Drew find a place to hide it. I am sure it was hidden in plain sight…

That side eye, tho!
My Love!
#1 & #2. He couldn’t wait to be taller than his big sister. Did he make it?
Living his absolute BEST life in true Damon fashion!

Off the boat, and out to explore Cozumel…

My 3 Daughters. They all have such diverse personalities, and it definitely makes life interesting.
She’s “Mama’s Homegirl!”
My Day 1!
Just CUTE!
The White Girls!

The last day at sea was spent just relaxing. We didn’t schedule anything, we just spent time together.

The middle kid….always clamoring to get time alone with the Parentals!

Our last night on the boat and hanging with our wonderful serving team, Andy & Ma!

So there you have it. The Whites were on VACATION! It was a much needed gathering, as Damon and I had missed having all of our offspring together. We laughed, we ate, (boy did we eat!) and we enjoyed each other’s company. I am already thinking about where our next venture will be to. Maybe a road trip of some sort. Hmmmmm…. In the mean time, be Blessed.
