What Has Been Making Me Happy This Week…

Good Friday Morning, Friends!

I am elated that we have made it to Friday, because this week seems like it lasted 93 days!

I do have a wonderful Praise Report to share. I believe in an earlier post, I spoke on my baby girl, Drew, having some major struggles in the behavior department. Just about everyday, she would come home with color coded conduct marks with various issues. I am going to be very transparent in this post, as I as her mother, have had some MAJOR issues with her behavior issues. Where to begin?

I am going to start out by saying that I do not claim to be perfect, as I have many a flaw, but what I will say, is that I love my children. With that being said, I have struggled with how to show her love, when I am constantly having to discipline her for bad behavior, and I feel like I am always mad at her. That is most definitely not the relationship that a mother and child should have. I am already not a cuddly, mushy type of lady, so just imagine what that is like for the two of us. Absolutely no frills!

Just in case you are wondering as to what type of behaviors, let’s just say, we should know better, and we need to tend to our own business, and not be worrying about others.

So I give you all of this background, only to bring you to this. I had a deep, outpouring & distressed conversation with my good friend Yolanda, and she really got me to thinking. We are both a little “older” mothers of younger children, so we have this EXTRA bond where children are concerned. This particular evening, she asked had I had her “tested.” Maybe there is something there that needs help? Maybe she is having some internal struggles?

So, the following week, I began to make some phone calls, and after speaking with the school counselor, I scheduled an appointment with our Pediatrician for the following week. Drew’s teachers, the counselor, & the Dr. were all involved in the process, and then she received a diagnosis of ADHD. While it wasn’t what I’d wanted to hear, I felt better knowing that we now know.

Damon & I have always said that we weren’t down for “doping” our kids, but in talking with a few people, a few people who have kids with the same issues, it was brought up that we give our kids medicine when they have a cough or stomachache. If this is something that their brain needs, then what is the difference? After the prescription was written, I vowed that I would be Mama Medicine Vigilante, and watch over her like a hawk!

Ya’ll! The 1st day I sent her to school on this medicine, I cried all the way to work. I felt like I was throwing my baby to the wolves. I wouldn’t be able to watch her like I said I would, and I felt totally helpless.

Drew is our baby of the bunch, and it shows. The girl said she is going to be a princess when she grows up…

A little Giggle…We never had a conversation with her about all of this, only what she overheard at the Dr’s. office. When I picked her up from daycare, you know, the day I cried all the way to work, she bounced over to me and our conversation went like this:

Drew: “MAMA! I think that medicine worked a little bit!”

Me: “How so, Girl?”

Drew: With her head cocked to one side “NORMALLY, I crawl under the table and get crayons that aren’t mine…..I didn’t even do that today!”

I died! That was the funniest thing that I had ever heard come out of her mouth! I was worried for nothing. That little girl is precious, and she recognized a change in herself. I don’t care if it is all a mental thing, she realized that something was different. She wanted to be different.

She doesn’t seemed to have missed a beat anywhere, and I am still able to be Mama Medicine Vigilante on weekends. Just to make sure she is not droopy or anything, but I am astounded at her progress with being more present during her school days, AND she has even received a few “Outstanding” marks in her conduct folder.

I know she is still a 6 year old kid, and we are not out of the woods on the foolishness, but I truly love where we are headed. My baby girl was struggling, and I am sure she did not know why. We were able to get her some help, and we are all the better for it. Thank the Lord for His guidance and for inserting the people into my life to have those conversations with. We are getting things on track. In Jesus’ name…

I have prayed over the writing of this post, as I am often reluctant to share my inner most thoughts.

Be Blessed,

Good Monday Morning!

Hey there, Friends! I pray that today finds you well.

How bout them Chiefs? While I am not a fan of KC, and am down with the Steeler Nation through & through, I am, however a fan of one Mr. Patrick Mahomes, & Mr. Andy Reid. Congratulations Guys! They came through in true KC fashion.

This past weekend wasn’t overly eventful, but it was definitely enjoyable. Got some grocery shopping done and a completed a few more projects around the house. I got a good visit in with my Mama, and got to snuggle a sweet, sweet baby. I spent some QT with my main peoples, attended worship, and enjoyed some time outdoors on the patio. #BLESSED

A Little Giggle….

As you all may know by now, I have started a home & office organization business called Be About It Organizing. There have been quit a few projects going on, and pictures of before and after being taken. Of course, my quest to be organized is not a new development, but it has been on hyper drive here recently. All of this to say, Kori has been bitten by the bug! We got home on Friday, and everyone went on with their chores. After about an hour or so, she comes down the stairs to say, “Mama, if you are looking for me, I am in my closet. Got some organizing to do.” Well, I’ll be danged! I am doing something right, I suppose. If I can achieve reaching just ONE of my kids, I am good with that. There is a running joke in our house that she is the only one whose house we will eat at when they’re grown.

Well, that is all that I have for you to day. Be Blessed, and have a great week!

Be About It Organizing in Action…

You Guys! You Guys!

This weekend, I was in my element. A client reached out to me out of sheer and utter frustration, wanting to “take her house back”. They had undergone a remodel over a year ago, and were instructed to box up items to get them out of the way, and let the magic happen. After all was said and done, these said items never got back, and things just started to mount up. With working full time, kids being active, and what seems like not enough hours in the day, one could definitely see how this could happen, right? That’s where I come in!

Here we have the beginnings…..

Now, they can actually EAT at the table. (Used to be a catch all spot)
Did I forget to mention that she is also a Troop Mom? (See all of those cookies back there?) Just busy!
The kitchen is the heart of the home, and you should be able to love being in it.

There was quite a bit to get rid of, and her daughter was too cute. She and I tag teamed and would ask Mom what we were doing about certain items, and if she took too long to answer, it would go in the “Throw Away” pile. After awhile of this, she just started saying to us stuff like, “So rude”, and “Ya’ll are just haters!” Hilarious! She knew we were right, and didn’t fight us, as a lot of this stuff she hadn’t even laid eyes on in over a year.

The whole time I was there, her daughter was talking about working on her room, but didn’t want me to see it. By the time we were almost done, and she was ecstatic about our progress, she asked me if I could give her some tips. (Adorable) I walked in, and as I had anticipated, being a mother of teenagers, it was a whirlwind of, you guessed it, CLOTHES! I told her what I thought, and challenged her to get at it ASAP, while the adrenaline was still pumping. She said she would, and as I walked out he door, she said, “Mrs. Kellie, I am going to send you some pictures tonight when I am done!” Ya’ll, she did that! I was so proud. Let’s just hope it sticks.

Words from my client:

My house was cluttered and I was overwhelmed… Kellie completely helped to transform my kitchen, laundry room and living room. Kellie helped transform my cluttered mess into an enjoyable, peaceful living space. My daughter and I enjoyed working with Kellie. She accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. Kellie is a pro and has a keen eye for organization.

She offered tips along the way that has me excited about my next project. My pre-teen daughter was even more excited that she immediately took the tips and started on her room… thanks to Be About It we broke clutter curses this past weekend and I’m so grateful.

I love it!

Friends, if you are in need of some assistance because you are living in a world of chaos, please do not hesitate to reach out and book a FREE call to see how I can help you. We can decide from there how YOU would like to proceed. Remember, Don’t just talk about it. BE about it!

Dollar Tree Storage Solutions

As I was going through pictures of all of my past organization projects, I got to thinking about how some people spend absurd amounts of money on products. As you all should know about me by now, I am just not that chick! I believe that you should always start first with utilizing things that you may already have, and when you don’t, just head on over to your neighborhood Dollar Tree!

I do often times find that not all Dollar Tree locations have what I am looking for, or even what their website has. You will find that one location may have all kinds of great things, then the next one is whack. My rule of thumb is that when I see something and get excited about it, I buy multiple, because the next time I go, it is liable to be gone!

Below are just a few things that I have purchased and used to keep my house in order…

This About Sums Us Up….

We start off somewhat regular, then some foolishness ensues. Typical Daddy!

Today’s post is just a bit random, and I wanted to share.

Miss Drew is in her element right here. I swear she is going to be a Forest Ranger. She loves to be outside and hoard rocks & berries, & acorns and such. After we come home from being “out in he wilderness” I have to make sure that she empties her pockets before doing the laundry, or we end up with all kinds of stuff in the lint trap.

A little giggle…

Yesterday, Drew had a Dr. appointment first thing in the morning. Since Damon didn’t have to be at work until a little later, he volunteered to take her. Since the little girls are usually a packaged deal, Kori had to tag along so Daddy could drop them both off afterwards. Kori’s biggest nightmare at the Dr. is of course a shot, but since it is Drew’s appointment, she is safe, right? No, no, no. Good ol’ Daddy inquired about a flu shot.

While I was figuring that they wouldn’t do it at an appointment that wasn’t hers, Damon had already asked, and sure enough, they hooked her right on up! I wish I could have seen the look on her face when he asked.

Drew is our Gangster Baby and is rarely phased by much, so she took her shot like a champ. Kori on the other hand, is the complete opposite of that. She kept saying, “No, Ma’am. I already got shots. I don’t need it.”

At the end of the day, she survived, but did still have quite the attitude about it when I picked her up. “Mama! That shot hurt! It still hurts! What’s the point of a flu shot if I can still get sick? OOOhhh!”

LOL! That girl.

Kids can definitely wear us out, but they also bring us so much joy. The exciting part is watching them grow, and being able to take pride in raising great humans, with our Lord and Savior guiding the way.

Psalms 127:3-5 3 Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.

Be Blessed,

“It’s because I’m Niceable…”

Niceable. I bet you are thinking, “What in the world does that mean?” According to my daughter Kori, its a mix of Nice and Likeable.

This girl is just a big bundle of Joy & Happiness! She has one of the biggest hearts, and we can all pretty much agree that she is in fact, Niceable!

This all started one evening when she, who is our middle child, sought the opportunity to get some 2 on 1 time with Mom & Dad. That little pocket where the other two were busy doing something else, and she had us all to herself. She was on a non stop chatter rant, and was listing all of these “Associates”, as she calls them, by name. I said, “You sure have a big following at school, and her response, “It’s cuz i’m so niceable, Mama,” in a DUH sort of tone. Just like MY kid to come up with a word like that, and make it work.

Just look at her! Full of energy and spunk! Living her best life.

Psalm: 15:13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

What a week….

Hey there, Friends! I’m back. A day later than I’d hoped, but I am here. Last week was definitely a doozie! One of those that only a glass of wine at the end of the week can revive you from. (A BIG glass of wine….)

I am excited to share that my sweet little nephew FINALLY made his way into the world! He was 9 days late! NINE….WHOLE…DAYS! In there living his best life! Look at that little face ya’ll…I just want to inhale all of that sweet baby goodness.

Meet Nicholas Avery

Okay everybody. Remember last week when I told you I had my first paying gig for Be About it Organizing??? Well, it happened, and I LOVED IT! I was able to get right in there and do my thing. My client was super engaged and was taking notes and everything. I helped her get one of her concerned areas in order while I was there, and I even gave her homework to do. We scheduled an appointment for me to go back and we will together tackle her MAIN living areas.

Shout out to Kamren, who hooked her Mama up with this logo…

We are not completely done in there, but we were able to organize the existing chaos and devise a plan. When all was said and done, I was beyond pumped about this new journey that I have begun.

There is no reason that you shouldn’t be proud of your home, and if you are struggling with this, I want to help.

Do you find that you want to:

  • Feel peaceful in your home and for your mind to be at rest
  • Be free of clutter…just what you use and love.
  • Have people over more.
  • Love being in your home
  • Not leave a burden for your kids or others to deal with.
  • Want all of your important documents in place.
  • To free your brain to focus on your goals.
  • Want to be an example and teach your kids how to be organized.
  • Stop wasting money – buying duplicates, buying organizing supplies that you never use, get returns taken back.
  • To waste less time…find things when you want them

If any of this sounds like you, and you are ready to make a change, please leave me your name and email in the comments. I will be choosing 1 lucky person to receive a FREE In-Home Consultation with ME!

Be About It Organizing Part 2…

Happy Freakin’ Wednesday, Ya’ll!

I told you I’d be back to share a few more handy dandy tips on how to keep house out of utter chaos. I know that everyone is not cut from the same cloth as I am, and that’s o.k. God did that on purpose. If being and staying organized is not your strong suit, I am here to help you work on said suit. A theoretical Sewing Class, if you will. (Lori, I know I can’t sew. Leave me alone…)

Let’s start with something that has been a blessing to my life. Whoever came up with this idea needs a gold star or two or three. The wonderful world of the GROCERY PICK UP! I don’t care who in the heck you use to make this a staple, but you need to use it. Where it does me the most good is in two areas.

1.) When I need specific items for a meal/meals that I am preparing. That is one reason that I don’t do a lot of recipe cooking. When it calls for those danggone ingredients that you have no idea where to even find them in the store….oooooh, that gets on my last nerve. I always feel like I am just wandering in circles, and it takes me way longer in the store. Not a fan.

2.) For when planning a party or some type of outing, like camping. I took the lead on a camping retreat, and about a week leading up to the day, I had been building a cart with all of our necessities. As things came to me, I just dropped them in, and was able to schedule my pick up on the way to my destination. That made me not have to unload but one time. Glorious, I tell you! Just Glorious!

The next thing that I want to help you with is, Bathroom Cabinet Organization. YAY!

The best tip that I can share with you is to categorize. You don’t necessarily need to go purchase anything, but I have picked up these little baskets at the Dollar Tree,

View Large Rectangular Slotted Plastic Storage

which is by the way, my 1st stop when purchasing supplies, and I group all things as listed below:

  1. Daily Use items: Deodorant, face wash, perfume, lotion
  2. Hair Care Products
  3. Extras not in use: Soap, Toothpaste, cotton balls, q-tips, etc.
  4. Cleaning supplies

For the stuff that I use everyday, I keep it right at the front, and just slide the basket out in order to access what I need and put it all back. This way, you keep the top clutter free, and have your necessities at your disposal. I live by the rule of, “Everything has a place.” Say what you will, but it does…. WORD!

That’s all for today, but I’m not done. Until next time, be Blessed.

Be About It Organizing….

Hey, Y’all! It’s almost that time!

I have been working and preparing to go full swing with Be About It Organizing. I’ve got my first “paying” client all set up for this month, and will be sharing her transformation in later posts. I am so excited to be on my way to doing something that I truly enjoy and feel that I was born to do.

I wanted to share a few tried & true tips & tricks that I use to stay on top of my organizing game. Let’s take a gander…

Do you get totally overwhelmed with the dreaded “L” word? That’s right. LAUNDRY!

Image result for overflowing laundry meme

I was chatting with a friend the other day, and she said that she is so tired of her Saturdays being taken over by all things laundry. Is this you? Well, let me tell you what I do. On maybe two mornings during the week, I go to grab a towel out of my master bathroom linen closet, and notice that my hamper is full. I then say to myself, “Self, let’s go ahead and get those clothes sorted.” Before I do that, I turn on my shower water, and by the time it is good and warm, I am done sorting! Boom! After showering and dressing, I run to drop said clothes into the washer and get them started. It takes me all of MAYBE 3 minutes? Then it’s back to getting myself ready to head out the door! Handled like a BOSS! When you get home, and before starting dinner, just be sure to transfer them on over to the dryer, or better yet, get a kid to do it!

Getting a kid to do it leads me to my next tip. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASSIGN CHORES TO THE KIDS! They are living under your roof rent free. It’s the least they can do!

My kids were with Grandma for a week over the holidays, and when they got back, my 16 year old son said, “I’m glad to be back home. I needed some structure.” Isn’t that hilarious? He said that he felt out of whack without his Daddy telling him, “Son, I need my truck washed.” “Son, my yard needs to be mowed.” You know, when you are at Grandma’s, you are chilling’ at Grandma’s. Grandma never MAKES you do anything!

Each of my three, still at home kids, are responsible for something in our house. All the way down to my 6 year old who empties all wastebaskets, dusts, & feeds the little dogs. Trust that you are raising a great human when they have responsibilities. You should never worry about feeling like Lady Tremaine, (AKA, Cinderella’s Wicked Stepmother) They will appreciate “The Structure”.

I just wanted to give you all a little peak into a few of the things that I do to keep from suffering from overload at the White House. Stay tuned later in the week for a few more tidbits.

Be Blessed,

Luke 11:25 – And when he cometh, he findeth [it] swept and garnished.

What’s Been Making Me Happy This Week….

Hey, Y’all!

This last week has been cray. With the holidays, and short work weeks, I haven’t known what day it was since December 21st! With that being said, it was really hard to get back in the swing of things yesterday. UGH to you work! #ifonlyididn’tneedmoneytolive

The kids went to spend time with Grandma right after Christmas, which meant that this Guy, and I got to spend our QT together for a few days…

We had plans to go out of town for a few days, but the lazy morning vacation mode got the better of us. We were the true poster children for “Staycation”. We binged a few TV shows, ate all kinds of different foods, and vegged for 4 days. It was GREAT! We did get out one day and did a little bowling. We quickly realized that when you get older, and are not very active with those particular muscles, it can get a little “creaky” in the shoulder & wrist areas.

My sweet babies did make it back home on Wednesday, and we were back to being responsible adults. I must admit, I did miss my rugrats.

We are going to wrap up this week with a little prep work for getting back in the full swing of work and school. Hair, clothes, lunchbox cleaning….you know how it is.

All in all, my PEOPLE have made me happy this week. I am looking forward to the new year, the new memories we will create, and the adventures we will go on in 2020.

Be Blessed,

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11

A Little Grumble: We were SUPPOSED to have us a baby on the last day of 2019, but alas, he would rather wait until 2020. His Momma is miserable, and his Daddy is anxious. Stay tuned….#mynephewalreadyneedsawhoopin
